The application
What the application includes.
Groton applications run through the Gateway application system, starting with the Candidate Profile.
- Entry grades
- The school names applicants to Second Form (Grade 8), Third Form (Grade 9), Fourth Form (Grade 10) and Fifth Form (Grade 11).
- Steps
- Apply online through the Gateway application system. The first step is the Candidate Profile, a common biographical form. Within 24 hours of submitting it, the family gets an email with a link to the Application Portal and login details.
- Application fee
- The application fee is $50. Families who find the fee difficult to pay can email or call the admission office.
- The parts
- The application includes a Candidate Profile, Candidate Statement, Parent Statement, principal or counselor recommendation, grade reports, English and math teacher recommendations, a personal recommendation, a special interest recommendation, a graded writing sample and a test score report. Multimedia and additional documents are voluntary.
- Candidate Statement
- A Candidate Statement written by the applicant is part of the application.
- Parent Statement
- A Parent Statement is part of the application.
- Recommendations
- Groton asks for a principal or counselor recommendation, a current English teacher recommendation and a current math teacher recommendation, plus a personal recommendation and a special interest recommendation.
- Grades
- No application is complete without a transcript that includes grades from the first marking period of the current school year and grades from the past two school years.
- Writing sample
- Groton asks for a graded writing sample and prefers non-fiction papers written during the current school year.
- Video introduction
- A video introduction is allowed and should not exceed five minutes. It can serve as an alternative to an interview.
- Interview
- An interview is part of the process. A student-led campus tour comes right before it. Groton does not state an interview completion date on the page we reviewed.
- Deadline
- January 15, 2027
